what opportunities are there ?
|
Whidbey island is in three sections. each one is unique and strong in charactor. South end (where i live)Central and the north end. You'll get off the ferry in Clinton. In Clinton there are a number of artists working from home. Many work with wood from dead fallen trees. There is a dance studio (where i teach) called Island Dance. We are always in need of new teachers/choreographers/ teacher assistance.. so if you are trained in ballet/tap/jazz/hip hop/modern/spanish/irish or any other type of dance...look us up or e-mail me. The studio phone no. is 360-341-1282. ask for gennie or charlene. We've been established here for 14 years. I also teach drama there so if you teach drama...join us. Also on the so. side you'll find Langley. We sit right on the Puget Sound Beach. We have around 800 to 900 population. there are two main streets in Langley. No less than 9 art galleries. All well respected and well received. There's the Artist Co-op. The artists sell their work there and put in a couple of hrs. a week working in the gallery. They are quite successful after only opening a couple of years ago. They too, are always looking for an artist interested in joining them. We have famous actors, writers, musicians, dancers living here all supporting our Whidbey is. Center For The Arts. Live shows from around the world are presented at this new theatre. If you are an artist in any field then it might interest you to know that when one can't afford to see a show at WICA one can volunteer as an usher and when the show starts you sit in the audience for free. I've had my own original one acts presented there and the stage (a circle in the half round) is generous in size but has an intimate feel as the audience is extremely close to the performers. WICA now offers artScool: with workshops with ACT producting director,Vito Zingarelli and directing by (my next door neighbor & academy award screenwriter) Lew Carlino.(These are free workshops to wica volunteers) workshops in dance/drama/painting/sculpturing/ mask making/writing..etc. are held summer long at WICA. If you're interested in teaching a workshop for WICA you can e them: [email protected] or visit their site at www.whidbey.com
